随着计算机应用技术、网络技术以及多媒体技术的飞速发展，各级各类学校普遍通过提供全新的教学环境，运用先进的教学手段来设计教学活动。这使得以计算机、投影机等多媒体教学设备为核心的多媒体教室越来越普及。在多媒体教室的建设过程中，多媒体集中控制器是不可或缺的重要设备之一。多媒体集中控制器是结合电子技术、计算机技术、网络技最新成果，将所有设备的控制操作集中在一起统一完成。它的最大的特点就是让复杂繁琐的设备操作过程简单化，让使用者在使用各种设备的过程中轻松自如。
本文致力于多媒体集中控制器的开发和研制，力求使其具备功能强、性能佳、兼容好、安装方便、操作简单、人机交互友好等特点。能够完整体现多媒体环境下各种设备的操作功能;能够实现音视频、VGA信号自动切换控制功能;能够实现对环境灯光、电动窗帘、空调等环境设备的控制功能。本文研制的多媒体集中控制器除了可以广泛用在多媒体教室，还普遍适用于会议室、多功能厅、学术报告厅等演示场所。
本文提出了用TDMF双音多频信号与多媒体集中控制器进行通信来实现控制操作的设想，并成功地通过计算机声卡播放DTMF双音多频信号来控制多媒体仪器设备，实现了多媒体集中控制器的全部功能。本文研究的内容主要包括:红外控制信号学习和存储处理模块、通过DTMF信号调用控制代码实现集中控制模块、多路音视频信号矩阵切换模块、环境
设备控制模块等。
